. In my opinion and looking at the deeper analysis of the case I forsee that audit was conducted to find out what went wrong and how it could be improved for later stages and along with it, I believed it also stressed on deriving the learning from the past failures and reflecting the lesson learnts on the future projects. The THAAD project began in 1992 where after series of successive failures the DOD decided to conduct the audit in June 1999. Also looking at the result of the audits we can easily classify them into direct goals that the audit was targeted too and some ancillary goal that came along with that.
Direct Goals :
- The goal of the audit was to identify why the missile-to-missile intercept failed past six times.
- The goals were SMART goals with t specific objective of creating better protype that can be deployed without failures
- Thy emphasized a lot on the quality of the contractor with emphasis on leadership, commitment and assured quality staffing. Poor quality of flight test interceptor already cost the project valuable time and cost.
- These steps speeded up their project and they could prepare well for the next stage that was carried out in 2004
- A lot of emphasis was laid on quality and efficient management as seen from the contract performance and contract administration changes that were brought in
