Consent:
* Implied consent: such as lifting an arm for an injection
* Expressed consent:
o Oral: for minor procedures, should be done or said in front of a 3rd party disinterested witness such as a nurse
o Written: for major procedure, it is in a form or documented state and should be signed by the patient as well as a 3rd party disinterested witness
Only one consent form should be for one procedure
Blanket consent: is ILLEGAL, it is when the document states the agreement for doctor to do as they please what ever they please.
Informed consent: is the doctor telling the patient what is on the consent form and the patient if fully aware of what the doctor is saying. It is an expressed consent both oral and written
Why should the doctor be truthful and honest?
* To foster the trust of the patient
* Informed participation by the patient
Relevance of consent
What happens IF the consent isn't taken?
* It is called a Battery of Assault and the doctor can be sued if consent has not been taken and can be shared for it
What if information is not given to the patient?
* It is called Negligence and the doctor will be charged for it
Defense: the consent form cannot be used as a defense
Criminal deed: it is an invalid form of consent

Rules:
What are the rules for the Doctors?
* Should provide information directly and in a language that is understood by the patient and it should be clear
* Don't put the patient in fear, falsification of facts is wrong
* The information should be taken or given when the patient is intoxicated or under the influence of any drugs or medication that can effect mental abilities
What is the age of giving consent?
* Below the age of 12 a guardian should give the consent
* it is between the age of 12-18 only can give a consent for physical examination.
* Over the age of 18 can give a consent for any damaging or suffering procedure done in good faith (one that doesn't bring death to the patient)
Full disclosure is provided for risky interventions and it can be partial when it is not risky (facts that are not important need not be given to the patients)
Precautions:
The doctor should inform the patient the nature of the treatment, alternative treatment available and the risk of such procedure and the prognosis
