Smoking should be banned in public places
The question is whether smoking should or shouldn’t be banned in public places. I’ll be stating the reasons and arguments why it should be banned.
Smoking is one of the most common reasons why people die today, not only the ones who smoke but also the ones around them. According to a published research, an estimated 1,323 Americans die each day from a smoking related illness. Smokers only make up to 26% of the US population but at the same time those 26% affect the environment and all the people around them in addition this is just an example of one country. Diseases such as emphysema, asthma, and cardiovascular problems are spread from smoking. A ban on smoking in all the public places would greatly decrease the health hazards related to smoking.
Medical studies have shown not only leads to health issues for the smoker but also the people close by. Passive smoking has serious negative health consequences. Every single person has the right to live in a safe and healthy environment. Smoking leads to pollution, secondly why is it okay for the non-smokers to live in a polluted environment just because of some smokers? It is unfair for one person’s nasty habit to affect another person’s health.
A smoking ban would reduce litter. I mean where ever you are, school, home, bus station or outside a building there’s always loads of cigarette butts laying around. Cigarette butts account for millions of pieces of litter annually and also distracts from a location’s aesthetic. ‘’Each of us should think of the future. Every puff on a cigarette is another tick closer to a time bomb of terrible consequences.’’ says Ray Comfort. Consequences such as even more polluted environment, everyone talks about leaving a better world for our upcoming generations but what about a cleaner world where they can at least breathe properly.
Arguments against the ban on smoking in public places is that the government makes huge profits due to the amount of cigarettes sold in a country and which leads to better finance, I would say how is financial situation more important than the people living in a country? What would a person prefer for themselves and even for their family, would a person be willing to live in an empty castle or would they rather live a healthy and non-polluted life with their family?
To sum up smoking has already shown lethal danger to health. Heart diseases, bronchitis and lung cancer are only a few of them which leads the government to pay thousands of dollars because of the large number of smokers and passive smokers needing treatment in hospitals due to their smoking habits. In conclusion banning smoking in public places is beneficial for everyone in every case.
