Shrey & Kindness
It is indeed a matter of great privilege and pride to have a chance to speak before this august audience of highly intellectual healthcare professionals. I really thank you all for considering me worthy of having your time.
These types of incidences teach us how a little kindness towards others can often just take a very small act on our behalf but in turn may have an almighty impact on others. We should never think of number of beneficiaries. As words of Mother Teresa goes “Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time and always start with the person nearest you.”
I read this story when i was in my under-grad college and it has left a deep impact on me. I now never keep any of my old shoes, shirts/pants with me but instead give it to some needy one in a nice condition as far as possible. This gives the biggest joy and is more uplifting than any other thing in this world. I myself have built a culture like of “OLX SIX MONTHS CHALLENGE”. If anything is lying for more than six months without any use to me, i can think of giving it off rather than increase my INVENTORY. These days after coming here and hearing Prof. Anindya Sen’s lectures daily i am seeing the world around through economic terms like Inventory, Supply Demand, Opportunity Cost etc. So in these terminologies we should increase the SUPPLY of kindness don’t worry it won’t shift the curve on right and decrease the DEMAND. But definitely our PRODUCTIVITY will increase and we will more CAPITAL to work with in the form of happiness and you will be the richest person on this planet.
In fact we don’t need bollywood actors and sex symbols to be our idols. Instead we need the millions of people who care about others and who are in real sense true superstars for our community. Kindness transcends every boundary like race religion, sex, state national every boundary, because kindness is a language the deaf can hear and the blind can see as rightly said by Mark Twain.
Probably our kindness/attention and determination for vulnerable people like with special abilities/children/geriatric population is needed more. These are the people with whom one can find unconditional love and in return they won’t expect anything but love. BUT ARE WE DOING ENOUGH FOR THEM? Probably not. We are still far behind in creating an environment in which people with special abilities can foster and lead a productive life. In spite of that we have bright stars like Ms. Prachi, who just recently got an admission in IIMA with 20% of vision or Mr. Srikanth who was born blind with familial income less than even 20000 a year, but now owns an enterprise valued at over 50 crore rupees. He was rejected by many business schools in india but managed to take admission in MIT USA. Their achievements truly bring the words of the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam "Great dreams of great dreamers are always transcended." to life once again.
