The pyramid that we are doing is the pyramid of khufu. The pyramid was built in 2560 BC and is located in Egypt next to the Nile River and it was position north to the sun; also it took 20 years to construct. The pyramid itself was 146 meters tall and 230 meters wide. The material used to build the pyramid consisted of 5.5 million pounds of limestone, 800 tones of granite, and a half a million pounds of molar. To build a pyramid this size within 20 years, the Egyptians would have need to move 800 tones of stone each day and moving an average of 12 blocks into place for day and night.
The pyramid was built in the center. Along with the Pyramid of khufu there were three Cheops for his wives, a small mastaba for the graves of the nobles, two mortuary temple to honor khufu. The most notable structure was the Great Sphinx of Giza. The Sphinx is a statue that has the head of man or animal, breast of a woman and wings of an eagle and also the body of a lion. The Sphinx itself till now we have no idea on what it was used for, but we think that it was to cover an underground tunnel system because there were three passages under the Sphinx.
Since it was one of the greater pyramids with a powerful pharaoh such as khufu himself grave robbers were to be expected. To prevent grave robbers the people whom constructed the pyramid designed ascending and descending passages. If the grave robbers passed through the right passages they would have to deal with false king and queen chambers. The false king and queen chambers where made to seem like the actual ones by placing them in between narrow walls and tight shafts.
