First, McDonald’s will set up a welcome meeting, so-called orientation for new recruit to attend. This is a casual meeting between trainers and trainees. In the meeting, the company will introduce the history or milestone of McDonald’s. The newbie also will be introduced with a complete job description and job specification.
Next, McDonald’s also provide on-job-training for the newly hired. On-job-training refers to activities carried out at a person’s workplace to develop work-related knowledge, skills, and attitudes. It is a floor-based training as they are trained by well-trained employees hand by hand. It acts as introduction training whereby all new recruits on the job to learn the basics duties in each of 11 workstations of McDonald’s which included from the front counter to the grill area.
Other than that, McDonald’s also provide job rotation training. Job rotation is defined as placing employees with different tasks or in different positions for a set of periods. Aim to allow employees to gain a wide range of skills through familiar with all levels of the job within different departments.
Next, McDonald’s also provide audio-visual-based training with training supplements such as DVDs films, videos, and audio tapes that related to the job performance of the organization. McDonald’s will play the video about how trained employees serving the customer, in what manner and tone, and how to prepare customer’s order to attract trainees’ attention and observe task procedures.
The advantages of the training program provided by McDonald’s will be the trainees will receive the quality process from the training. They can learn many operation skills because they need to learn how to operate the equipment.
How about disadvantages? Well, it will be, firstly, the time required for the training program. Each person is unique or different from other, so as well as learning skills. Some of the new hired may be learned the process quickly but some may not. Therefore, if the time is given for those slow learners, it will cause errors occur in the workplace as they haven’t learned completely than quick learners.
Next, the training program is costly. Based on the research, McDonald’s have used more than $40 million annually on the training program. Thus, it reduces the capital and profits.
