What are the two dimensions of face in Chinese culture
The two dimensions of face in chineses culture are Lian ( personal behavior) and Mianzi ( relationship ) . Lian represent the self-respect , the dignity , without the lian , a person is socially criticized . The mianzi is about the prestige , he is valuable and without these you can't reach high status .
Can you define the connections and differences between guanxi and renqing?
Guanxi is about relationships between two people , it's a network based on exchange of favors . But the Guanxi is not about expression of sympathy and friendship while the Renqing determine relations also with these aspect . Renqing involves socials exchange and it's the difference with guanxi .
In your opinion what are the voluntary constructed relationships and predetermined relationships in traditional Confucian society?
In my opinion the voluntary constructed relationships are :
-Friends/friends
-Ruler/Subject
-Husband/Wife
And the predetermined are :
-Father/Son
-Brother/Brother
Can you tell me the major differences between the Chinese and Japanese approaches to building connection networks?
Building connection networks is also important in japan than in China but Japanese think that it's too traditional an old fashioned . Unlike Japanese , the Chinese can have pluralistic identifications with other individuals or social group based on attributes they share with other individuals or social groups . Japanes are more conscious of the downside of guanxi networks .
How is guanxi related to face?
The face is about Lian and mianzi . If someone have no mianzi , he can't develop a connection network so the guanxi . The face make the networks and the networks make the face .
