Learning Project Report
Over the course of this semester I have completed my learning project assignment that has successfully helped me become better at taking notes. Now that I have decided to take note taking seriously I can say that I have, without a doubt, seen positive results. I can also conclude that note taking makes a huge impact on grades. Due to the fact that my sociology course has the most content to understand I specifically focused on making clear notes that did not just help me remember what I learned in class through a method known as the banking method, but also helped me to understand what I was writing. I can honestly say taking my time to make notes helped me to not just write notes aimlessly but with purpose.
What did you do?
So as displayed in my action plan, I made sure I completed my research by answering the questions. For stage one I did as planned and that was to gather information. I went online to look for so some good examples of effective note taking. I was able to locate a guide with 4 strategies those being;
1. Make sure to write any repeated ideas or written text that professor puts on the board because those are usually key points
2. Try to sit towards the front and center of the class where you'll be less distracted and can hear the professor the best and have a good angle on any visual aids that may be shown.
3. Do reading assignments or homework questions before class; it is easier to take notes when you know what the instructor is talking about.
4. If you missed what the instructor said, ask them to repeat it or go to the instructor after class and ask for clarification. If you are in a rush, ask the instructor at the beginning of the next class or try to find the answer from a friend or the text.
All of these strategies were put into practiced and answered my first question of, how would I begin to make effective notes? Next I compared my notes to one done properly online and located so many errors in my own, such as a lack of organization. I noticed with the notes I take in class I am in such a rush to get down everything the professor says that I don't bother organizing them, which just makes it impossible to understand at the end. I also went through my professor's slides as well as the textbook and took thorough notes, which gave me more of a background understanding when adding the notes that I took in class.
For stage 2, I was unable to find good videos that answered my question but I did find the answer to the second question on other websites, most of the websites stated that when it comes to distinguishing important information from the ones that aren't important, it is important to trust what your professor emphasizes and pay attention to key definitions. After locating this answer I would have to say finding a proper strategy for note
