Character is important in any setting because it shows how a person really is. Everyone has a different opinion about how to properly define character, but in my opinion, someone character is a person’s true self. “A good man out of good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things” (Matthew 12:35, New King James Version). It’s important that firms set an “character” to ensure that everyone has integrity, responsibility, and understanding of others.
Proverbs 28:6 states that “Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich” (New King James Version). Integrity is defined as the characteristic of being honest and having strong moral principles. Simpler definition is just being able to tell the truth. This is an important quality that a leader of a firm must have to set the atmosphere for their subordinates. Being able to tell the truth regardless of the nature of the news whether it be good or bad and not spinning the truth (Stefano & Wasylyshyn, 2005).
According to an article called “What is a leader without character?” character is “a complex aggregate of mental and ethical traits that form the nature of a person" and the most important indicator of an individual's success” (Gianfortune, 2014). I personally feel that people who show traits of a good character tend to be very successful in their lives. A person who has a good character also tend to respect and trust the people they lead and their followers tend to trust and respect them as well. The leader and the followers are empowering each other to do their best because it’s the right thing to do and not to see what they can get out of the good deed.
When dealing with marketing it is identifying and meeting the human and social needs (Kotler & Keller, 2016 p.5). When character goes along with being a leader, and in marketing its important to have someone run the firm to make sure that is successful. It’s important that the leader makes it clear what the objectives are for the firm and that everyone should follow. “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving on another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do” (Colossians 3:12-13, New King James Version).
When making decisions on behalf of others we should follow our hearts and only if the intentions are pure. What would Jesus do is something a leader should ask themselves daily. Once again, a person who has a great sense a character makes a great leader and tends to lead its follower to success along with themselves. Character is shown by your actions and your work will reflect your true intentions.
