Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Author: J K Rowling

Genre: Fantasy. This genre is evident as the book is about magicians who can utilize magic and have the ability to cast a variety of spells. There are also several magical/mythical creatures including elves and centaurs. The usage of magical tools like wands and flying broomsticks further justify the genre of fantasy.

Setting: The book is set in the present time, inbetween the world of 'muggles" who can't use magic and the world of wizards who use magic to do everything. In the world of the living the book is set in various locations in the UK including London. In the wizard world the book is set in places such as Diagon Alley, number twelve Grimmauld Place, the Forest of Dean, and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Protagonist: The protagonist is Harry Potter. The entire series is about him. He wears glasses that are strikingly similar to those of John Lennon. He has blue eyes, brown hair and is short. The easiest way in which people identify Harry is the scar left on his forehead by Voldemort. The scar takes the form of a lightning bolt. He turns seventeen during the course of the book. Harry is a courageous and determined young wizard. Harry is consistently faithful to his quest throughout the book. He truly loves his friends and would do anything to keep them from harm, including giving up his own life.

Antagonist: The main antagonist and the most powerful evil wizard who ever lived, recently restored to his body and full powers after fourteen years. When Harry was one year old, Voldemort murdered Harry's parents and tried to murder Harry, but his curse rebounded upon him and tore his soul from his body, and made him lose most of his powers. He is obsessed with figuring out why Harry keeps defeating him or slipping out of his grasp, and will stop at nothing to find a way to kill Harry. He is relentless and will kill anyone without feeling any regret. He is bald, very pale and has two slits where his nose should be. Voldemort has the ability to talk to snakes. The wizard population refer to him as 'The One Who Must Not Be Named'

Plot: Three brothers in the past who tried to cheat death asked for certain items. One brother got a stone to ressurrect the dead, one brother got a wand to defeat anyone in a wizard's duel, and one brother asked for an invisibility cloak. Harry must seek out these items and reunite them, as well as destroy the last of Voldemort's horcruxes which keeo voldemort alive, and then defeat Voldemort.

Theme: As in all of the Harry Potter books, the overwhelming theme is good vs. evil. Voldemort and the Death Eaters represent the "evil" aspect of humanity, while Harry and his friends are the good. There is also the theme of love. Harry's love for Ginny,
