Gay Rights

Did love ever have to consist of the same sex? Was it ever written in the constitution or in the amendments that opposite sex has the only to love? Gay rights are when giving two people of the same sex equal civil and social rights. There are states in America that have passed the law of gay marriage. Therefore there are many people that approve of gay rights. Gays, homosexuals, and heterosexuals do not really differ from you and me; the only difference is that they happen to have different interest on the way to love.

Most of society is unfamiliar with the changes that have appeared within the years. Those changes consist of how some people chose the person that they want to spend their life with. It is no one else's business if two men or two women want to get married. Why should we allow gay marriage? Two people of the same sex who love each other should be allowed to publicly celebrate their commitment and receive the same benefits of marriage as opposite sex couples. Also, there is no such thing as traditional marriage. Given the prevalence of modern and ancient examples of family arrangements based on polygamy, communal child rearing, the use of concubines and mistresses and the commonality of prostitution, heterosexual monogamy can be considered "Run natural” in evolutionary terms.

Should we even consider changing the law because of a minority of the population? Marriage is already threatened with high divorce rates and with 40.6% of babies being born to unmarried mothers in 2008. Allowing same-sex couples to marry would further weaken the constitution. (http://gaymarriage.procon.org/) The institution of marriage has traditionally been defined as between a man and a woman. In the Oct. 15, 1971 decision Baker v. Nelson, the Supreme Court of Minnesota found that "The institution of marriage as a union of man and woman, uniquely involving the procreation and rearing of child..." (http://gaymarriage.procon.org/). When we change the law like New York and other states have, how is that harming the environment?

In my opinion, I think that since America is a "free country" then people should do what ever puts a smile on there faces. Based on the religious out look on this topic, the church does not approve because it is stated in the Holy Bible that a marriage consists of two people of the opposite sex. However, I do not think it is anyone's business of what two people.

In conclusion, I completely support Gay rights for the obvious reasons. Many Americans support gay rights, because several other states have approved of it. This country is for freedom and free will.
