INTRODUCTION
Freshman always forget that continuous learning process is important to enter into new job. Skills and knowledge from book can enlighten us in many ways. Therefore, experienced workers must combine their vast know-how with latest management knowledge to improve themselves in achieving their target. The author of the book title “Full Engagement!: Inspire, Motivate, And Bring Out The Best In Your People” strongly emphasize that great achievement can be achieve by investing in people.
The Author, Brian Tracy is one of the well-known professional management speakers and author internationally. He was born on 5 January, 1944 in Canada. He dropped out of high school and start his jobs by working in sawmills, factories and on construction projects. Brian Tracy was greatly inspired from his job as a sales person in commercial real estate in 1970, which opens his mind to asking successful salesmen how they succeed. He pulled himself up from nothing and become famous author with his best business books that have been translated into 38 languages and are used in 55 countries. For example, the book title Advance Selling Strategies : The Proven Systems of Sales Ideas, Methods, and Techniques Used by Top Salespeople Everywhere (1995) now become one of the must read business book for direct sales people e.g., Amway. Brian Tracy has spoken for 30 years in the field of business and management.
The author express through the book that higher achievement will be a mix of motivation psychology and leadership skills. He has divided the book into 9 chapters to explain his success principle and provided some insight on how to lead teams to do their best in work. In this book, the author shared many timeless strategies that shared by many famous motivator and psychologist such as Abraham Maslow that aspired him each manager must learn to fulfill people basic needs, thought and action to influence surrounding human being and environment. From psychology perspective, Brian Tracy line out to all his book reader, especially managers in real work world and people interested in business that nothing in this world can be successful without inspiring, motivating and bringing out the best in your people.
BOOK EVALUATION
This book has successfully demonstrated the importance of relationship motivation and human management that are often practice by manager to bring out the best in people. Most motivation skills and mindset touched by the author was told through successful stories. It is a great book that assists reader to achieve business goal by applying "Action Exercises" that are included at the end of each chapter. This book touched about author sales and human management experience, which he practice in previous daily working life.
Naturally, an organization success depend on strategically planned business blueprint which is fully engaged in motivating employees. Brian Tracy is an expert on sales and marketing. Most of his story in this book had proved that many organizations’ transition and development in present time of change totally relate to leadership skills and followers willingness. His main idea in this book had stated clearly that we can’t just sit at our own desk to achieve the task goal as each goal required us to connect with all influential factors especially how to manage people.
There was two clear examples to support Brian Tracy's points. His training for famous IT company: Hewlett-Packard (HP). Motivation for managers in workplace had proved that the best managers who are human-oriented had ability to create an environment where people engage with their jobs are willing to continue to work in company will put in even more hours until they had forced to take time off with their personal lives. Getting people engage is essential to gain the trust among employees and achieving company goal. In the point of "Create that Winning Feeling" in chapter six, Brian Tracy pinpoint that leader which make the achievement of target more difficult thus causing sales person felt unmotivated and resigned. This example proved that many people like to work in companies where their effort are greatly appreciated and rewarded.
This book suggest to all manager to set a new open mindset to get a chance to know employees importance and interest. From “Full Engagement!: Inspire, Motivate, And Bring Out The Best In Your People”, I found many important points, such as interpersonal skills guide us to explore the society in healthy and mutually beneficial way. As a freshman that enter into this new diplomatic world, we are encourage to be always prepare to make the new connection by offering a compromise to interact with all new people in ministry and new bosses. We will play role as leader for our operational division subordinate even when we are still in the new learning process. For sure, we can learn the method of how to interact with all superior whom apply different works style in daily job scope.
