Maslow: Motivation Theory

My favorite theorist is Maslow. Maslow motivation theory is most inspirational among personality theories. He argues that human beings are motivated by unfulfilled desires (Douglas, 2004). Maslow discusses five levels of needs that must be addressed one after the other to for one to be grow successfully. These needs include; physiological, safety, belonging, esteem and self actualization need (Boeree, 2006). With effective interpretation of the theory it can kindle growth and development of businesses, individuals, working teams and the society.

The Motivation theory has been my choice because it very insightful, easy to understand and apply. Secondly it is applicable in daily life as one has to set some milestones which need to be achieved prior realizing the major goal set. Thirdly, the theory emphasizes that things do not get easier when one progress as it is demonstrated as you go up the hierarchy level and therefore adequate preparation is needed (Boeree, 2006). Motivation theory is a straightforward and significant concept that helps human to understand, develop and utilize their potential. Therefore, I consider this theory more applicable in life since everybody requires motivation to succeed

Motivation is a subject in psychology which is very essential, especially today when everybody aspires to be successful and require a drive and direction. In Maslow's view growth is progressive fulfillment of high level psychological needs (Frank, 2004). Therefore, one has to fulfill the basic needs before progressing to satisfy others. This theory has great impact in the study of psychology since it helps one to reach the highest level of his or her potential. Maslow theory focuses on motivation as the driving force in human practices and behavior and can be used to influence progress in human life. Psychologists need to understand that people are motivated differently and some may move up the hierarchy with lower pace as compared to others (Boeree, 2006).
