Ford car sales in Australia (2000-2014)
The line graph illustrates the changes of the number of cars sold by Ford in Australia from 2000 to 2012, with a forecast through 2014. In general, sales witnessed a growth over eight years but suddenly dropped and then fluctuated for the next five years. Sales are predicted to continue to fall into 2014.
As can be seen from the line graph, sales decreased from 2 million cars in 2000 to just over 1.7 million by early 2001. During 2001, there was a drop in sales to around 1.6 million units as a result of the manufacturing parts being moved offshore. In the next year, Ford introduced four new models; as a result, sales rose steadily from around 1.6 million to 2 million by mid 2005. At that time, the Government reduced taxes on imported cars, which resulted in Ford car sales climbing to a peak of nearly 2.8 million cars. However, in early 2008, sales plummeted to approximately 1.7 million cars because of the Global Financial Crisis. Between early 2009 and 2010, due to the increase in online advertising and changes in management, sales fluctuated between 1.8 million and 1.7 million cars. In the last three years, from mid 2010 to late 2012, sales experienced a gradual decline to over 1.6 million cars, which was caused by the high of manufacture and labour costs. It is estimated that Ford car sales in Australia will continue to decline slowly to nearly 1.5 million cars by 2014.
