Discuss how a personalised induction will always be more effective.

Personalised inductions come in many different forms and these vary depending on what works best for your client. As stated in Hypnosis for change by Hadley and Staudacher, it is however vital that the induction brings about complete relaxation of the body and mind, Focus, reduced awareness of the environment that surrounds them and any concerns they might have, greater internal awareness of sensations and of course a trance state.

A personalised induction is effective because every person is individual in personality, Values, beliefs, outlooks and perspectives and we need to match our induction to cater to our clients needs in order to make the client feel comfortable within an environment of choice and safety. We need to use subjects from within their inner world, Things that they recognise and things that help them to achieve a positive mind set.

One of the ways in which we can ascertain the best way to talk to our client is by identifying modalities. When we obtain a clients modality it means we can talk to them in a way in which they will comfortable. When referring to modalities what we are actually talking about are our primary senses such as sight, hearing, feeling, smell and taste although smell and taste are often classed as secondary senses. These are categorized into the following:

Kinaesthetic - This represents our feeling system, both internally and externally. We use our kinaesthetic system when we feel an emotion. People of this category often get to grips with another person's emotions before they even speak to them, they always touch things and tend to feel quite comfortable in a cluttered environment as long as they feel that it's ok.

Visual - This represents sight, people who have this as their primary modality are often very creative, they enjoy design and drawing. They are always the ones tidying up as they like everything to look good.

Auditory - This represents Hearing and is associated with listening internally to sounds, like voices or music. People with this as their primary modality will love to talk on the phone and play music of their favour.

Every person has a favourite sense, one that we respond better to and that makes it easier for us to imagine ourselves in.

In order to write a client's induction, we first need to access their modalities. There are lots of ways that we can figure this out, for example by listening to language cues because in some cases a phrase can be translated into a modality, we can see verbal preferences towards a person's primary modality. For example with Kinaesthetic people you may often hear phrases like 'I know how you feel', or 'Hold on a moment' where as someone of the Auditory modality may use phrases like 'Loud and Clear' or ' That Sounds good.'

We can also access the client's eye movement. This is Called Lateral eye Movement. When we are thinking we often use different types of eye movement. It will often change depending on the types of questions we are being asked as this helps us to focus on the type of thinking we need to do in order to find the information required of us. For Example, someone of a visual modality will often be defocused or going up to the left or right. They will move to the person's right when they are forming images and to the persons left when they are remembering. Kinaesthetic people on the other hand will usually look down to the right.

We can also access our clients voice tone and breathing and the type of posture that they take up or perhaps gestures that they might use when they talk to us.

By accessing modalities in this way we can personalise our screeds to suit our client but also by employing all the senses in this way we can help them to achieve a deeper trance state which will of course achieve complete relaxation.

When we personalise our inductions we do this by using one of two techniques. The Authoritarian technique or the permissive technique. They are both completely the opposite of each other. Permissive being a very indirect style where there are no commands, the voice you use will be of a softer tone in order to send the client into complete relaxation. It is a very caring style and leaves the client with control and a larger responsibility
