Community Agency Report
Description of a Family in Need
David and Emma are parents to four year old Riley who is in my kindergarten program. One day, when both David and Emma came to pick up Riley from my kindergarten program, they asked if they could have a meeting with me to discuss some concerns that they had about Riley. In our meeting, David and Emma explained that Riley has voiced that she does not feel like a girl and that she does not feel comfortable wearing girl clothes or having her hair like a girl. Since Riley is so young, Emma and David do not know what to do or how to approach this situation. They said that they feel lost and confused because they do not know if their child is actually old enough or developed enough mentally, to actually be aware of whether her body matches her gender. Overall, David and Emma want to be supportive of Riley, they just do not know what to do or where to start. But, they also have concerns on how other children will react towards their child if Riley genuinely feels that way. Most importantly David and Emma want Riley to feel as comfortable as possible and they want her to have a smooth transition if she eventually does decide to change her appearance.
