2. What is the source of cirque du soleil value?

Circus historian Fred Pfening questions the legitimacy about to what extent cirque du soleil is really a real circus, he stresses is what the audience thinks it is. It is soleil. A new "trend" in the largest and the strictest sense concerning traditional circus.

The cirque du soleil is not just a pure circus as we understand from our past experiences when we were kids. It is pure innovation. This competitive advantage makes this new experience amazing. Why?. Since it first performance in 1983 the company struggle to offer a new concept, an entertainment show not just for kids like traditional circus but for the entire family, a value that this business has able to promote. The circus is based in a supporting storylines very innovative, they never repeat their shows exactly. Hence the circus is permanently being creative and entirely different from previous ones shows, another key value. Therefore you can come back expecting to find new performances and wonderful creativity. They amalgamate different performances from other circus across the world. Anyhow the majority of the performances, again another important value to attract the audience, are completely different from what people generally have seen in a traditional circus. There is an important value based on pure sophistication, colours, lights, customs, music and accessories.

In order to produce such innovative performances the circus needs to update it permanently i.e. keeps innovating in new shows making it always a new virtual experience. Creativity to offer is its main value. In this sense they conceive new marketing strategies and make important investments and extensive research and devise how to design the different sets that are going to offer. They had made a fusion between art, spectacle and opera. Something that results extremely original and bring about great success within the audience.

In addition the revenues have became rather high in an industry that was considered declined. They have just created a niche market for themselves very profitable.

To keep this profitability the circus make itself some key questions in order to cut off costs that were common in traditional circus. For instance they do not use Circus Star, nobody is famous. The circus stars were costly and had a high power in traditional circuses. At the same time they do not use animals like the traditional circus industry, they rely on distinctive and skillfully persons. The use of animals can be considered cruel, and it is assumed that costs are high in terms of transport, food, stockage in cages and so forth.
