Case of Poor Communication

In many cases there are problems that you and I might not see while we are communicating to each other. This is what can cause many problems for people in their daily lives by not properly understanding one another. There are many steps that we can take in order to make our communication a little better in order to avoid problems that might arise. In this paper I will share with you the communication problems that I have experienced. As well as going over a few things that our course has covered that I could use to have a better communication process.

The miscommunication that I have had a lot of was with my five-year old son. I was talking about what chores need to get done and that the dogs need to go out. After I have had my conversation with him I will walk away and cook supper. A few hours will go by and I will notice that the dogs are walking up to me following me all over the kitchen while I am working on supper. To my surprise the dog dishes were not full with food and little water. At this point I was very upset, but assumed he at least took them out to go to the bathroom outside. Then I found that they had a little accident in the living room because they were not let to go outside either. I assumed that my communication with my son was very clear on what needed to be done so we could eat supper then all is ready to go to soccer practice.

At this point I was a little upset that I asked him to do just these few chores so that we would be able to make it to his practice on time. Due to the communication not being as great as I thought it was, the dogs were barking following me around since they were hungry. As for the accident in the living I almost slipped and fell in the mess that was on the floor. I believe that he did not do what he was told because I could of asked him to do to many things at once and his mind did not keep track of them all. Sometimes I forgot that his mind is very little and that he might not be able to keep as big of a list of things to do in it like you and I can.

In order to make this communication more clear I can give him a poster with his chores on it so he can go down the list at his own pace. This way it will fix me from having to tell him to do the same chores everyday. It will also help him to not be as confused and see what he has already done. Therefore, he will not have a long list in his head that he will forget. This will help to make sure that this does not happen in the future.

If I do not make the list on the poster board there are other ways that I could make my communication clear when this does happen. When he comes to me with what chores need to get done I can have him come back after each one is done. This way I could go through my mind what others ones need to be done. My perception of what was going on in the house while I was asking my son to do his chores could have
