Bull fighting as we know it, has been practiced since 1726, and in recent years a discussion about its violence and cruelty has been taking place, because of the way how bulls are literally tortured and then killed. By other way we have bullfighting fans who point this as a sport and even an art. The objective of this essay is to discuss if the bullfights are inhuman or they are really a sport.
It’s true that bullfighting has been qualified as sport through the years, but I’ll describe it to have a better background. We can divide a bull fight in three parts: First, a bull is forced into the arena and taunted by a bullfighter with a cape. Then, the same bullfighter come in with brightly colored darts with harpoon points on their ends called banderillas and he start stabbing the animal. Finally, after using his cape and sword (the faena) to provoke a few exhausted charges from the dying animal, the bullfighter, also called matador or torero, tries to deliver the death blow, or estocada, with his sword.
Many people is against the bullfights because they considered this activity as inhuman and cruel, cause it is a direct attack to the animals and it couldn’t be a reason of entertainment as if we were a primitive civilization. They argument we should respect every kind of life.
In contrast, many other people, lovers of this sport, argument that the specific breed used for the bullfights wouldn’t exist if they are not raised for this specific activity. Other bullfight lovers argue that is an art, and it should remain in time, not only as a sport, also as a kind of art.
In conclusion, bullfighting is an activity in which skills like bravery and agility are needed that can make if this an sport, and some people say it can be an art, but actually it is a cruel and inhuman activity full of blood and violence that should be banned.
