Basically this little kid grows up in the country and he has always gone hunting. He notices one day they have hounds and other dogs with them & he thinks to himself he should get a dog, or maybe two. This is about his journey to find two dogs. He raises the money and keeps it in a jar in the barn & his grandfather helps him. He calls to see if he can come get them and they say yes. So he packs a bag with cornmeal and potatoes and other stuff and heads to the city to get the dogs. He plans to put the pupies in the sack so he cuts 2 wholes in the sack. He gets them and comes back to his house, then he has to raise them. So he raises themto be big hunting dogs. Then he enters a contest to see if he has the best hunting dog in the region. He ends up wining. Then they go on a hunt at night and its freezing & one dog chases a coon up a tree across the frozen lake. He gets across but the boy falls in. The girl and boy dog have to help him get out but during the process of that the girl dog falls in. After that event the boy dog is scraped up very badly and the girl dog is very sick from the freezing water. Both of the dogs end up dying and he has to bury them. he does and after a little while, there is a Red Fern that grows right in between the two dogs. The end!
