VISION – Vision or sight as it pertains to system design is usually limited to the desired vertical and horizontal fields.
HEARING – in human activities, the designer needs to address both the requirements for oral communication and the aspects of noise. Of particular concern is the effect of noise on the performance of work. Noise is generally garded as a distractor and a deterrent when considering efficiency of work accomplishment.
CAUSES OF STRESS
TEMPERATURE EXTREMES – certain temperature extremes are detrimental to work efficiency.
HUMIDITY – heat and humidity are usually significantly factors in causing a reduction in the operational efficiency of personnel.
VIBRATION – high levels of vibration will often affect human proficiency.
NOISE – impact on human efficiency.
Other factors
1. JOB OPERATION – Completion of a function normally includes a combination of duties and tasks.
2. DUTY – Defined as a set of related tasks within a given job operation.
3. TASK – Constitues a composite of related activities (informational, decision and control activities) performed by and individual in accomplishing a prescribed amount of work in specified environment.
4. SUBTASK – Depending on the complexity of the situation, a task may be broken down into suntasks to cover discrete actions of a limited nature.
5. TASK ELEMENT – Task elements may be categorized as to the smallest logically definable facet of activity.
Good hardware and software design alone will now guarantee good usability.Examples:User’s anthropometric characteristics (human physical dimensions)Sensory factors (sigh, hearing, etc)
Physiological factors (impact from environmental forces)
Psychological factors (needs, expectations, attitude, motivation, etc.) and their interrelationships.
Software design requires the proper integration of human factors (hardware, software, facilities, data and other elements).
