Trust: Easily Lost and Hard to Earn

When I think of the most important quality in a friend or a family member, trust immediately comes to my mind. Trust can be defined as confidence in the integrity, strength, ability, and surety of a person. But really, what does that mean? Trust is having faith in another person, minus the lack of the outcome. To gain the trust of a parent or a friend, one must continuously prove one's honesty and reliability. To gain someone's trust could take years, but it could also be lost in any given moment.

Trust begins in a relationship with God. Many people rely on trust in relationships and once it is broken, it is hard for them to really trust another person again because they feel as if they will just be torn down again and they really do not want to go through that. Philippians 4:13 stated, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." In this verse from the Bible, Jesus says that anybody can do anything they set their mind to because no matter what happens, Christ will always be there with them strengthening them along the way to help them do so. If we trust in ourselves, we may fail. But we must believe that Jesus will provide the strength we need to please God. To confess your lack of trust to God, one must admit to the Lord. Fully trusting in God for many people's troubles can seem like it is impossible to do, especially when our problems seem like nobody can help us of our weakness because it is too over-powering. But, God does not command us to anything that He will not give us the strength and ability to accomplish. Anybody can always lean on God because we will never fail us. God is the number one man in many people's lives that many can trust with any hesitation.

Moving on from the past can be a tough task, but when one finally does move on from it, life gets so much easier. When one trusts in someone else, like a best friend, you feel safe around them because you know that you are in good hands. Having a good friendship takes time: time to get to know each other, time to build shared memories, time to invest in each other's growth. We all need a friend that we can share important stories of our lives with, our thoughts, our feelings, and our frustrations. We need to be able to share our deepest secrets with them, without having to worry that our secret will end up on the Internet the next day. In a true friendship, you have to earn the trust and gain the trust before you can actually just get it. Take me for an example, I do not trust others very easily and I do not let others in because I am so use to being let down. Well it was not until my senior year in high school when I actually was able to trust someone. I spent every day with this person, learning about them, hearing stories of their family and different kinds of situations this person has been in. Halfway through my senior year, that person became my boyfriend. I trust him with everything because he told me that he will never fail me and he has not yet to do so. Our relationship has grown so much since then because we trust each other and we always
