Tour Guide
Good Morning Kids! I am Chris and I will be your tour guide today. Today we will journey through the Declaration of Independence Exhibit. Here we go! To our left we will see that the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. For those of you who don't know the Declaration of independence is a document declaring the US to be independent of the British Crown. If you look straight ahead you will see the pictures and Uniforms from the first battle. The battle took place in 1775 at Lexington and Concord. The battle was between the British and the Colonist. Ok kids now we are going to travel down the hallway to the room of King George. Does anyone who King George is show of hands? (Waiting for hands to be raised). Ok great! Let's go see what other things we can get know about him. What we are going to first find out is that King George isn't a very nice man. His first thought for the first continental congress is that he thought they were all traitors. When really they were doing what was right. Over time there became 5 Grievances against King George. The first one was for quartering larges armored bodied troops among us. The second one was for cutting off all our trade with all parts of the world. The third was for imposing taxes on us without our consent. The fourth one was for depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury. The fifth and final one is for transporting us beyond seas to be tried for pretended offenses. Ok kids what did you think of King George, he is quite the horrible man isn't he (Children agree). As we exit this room you can see on your right a picture of Thomas Paine. He had a thought called common sense and the main Idea of that was to break away from England since the colonies got nothing out of the relationship. Now kids if you could look at the wall to your far left you will see a wall with some large Photos on it. These are the people who wrote the Declaration of Independence. The first 4 photos are photos of probably the most famous people that were there. That includes Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Roger Sherman. Thomas Jefferson wrote the first draft of the Declaration of Independence. In the Declaration of Independence there were three main parts. The first part stated the importance of life liberty, and pursuit of happiness, and that all men at created equal. The second part gave the right to revolt against and a listing of grievances against the king. The last important part was the official statement of Independence. Alright Kids what did you think of the exhibit? (Kids Cheer). Great im glad that you all enjoyed it. Ok then Im going to leave you off with my partner Sonja I hope you kids enjoy the rest of the museum. Have an outstanding day!
