Description of Value Creation Process:
Value Creation Process is the set of activities to improve the value of product. Each activity or stage is adding value to product to make it finished product. The value creation process of Bismillah Rice Mill also includes different steps in manufacturing of rice till the retailers. First raw material is purchased from suppliers which is PADDY. After purchasing Raw material it is transported to warehouse and then Rice seed is dried. Then company waits 48 hours after rice seed is dried so it can come into manufacturing process.
Manufacturing process then includes Paddy cleaning in which hulls and bran are removed and paddy is being filtered then comes husking which includes removal of rice bran and then fan separate brans through its air pressure. Then separator reject grains which are not husked properly and sent back to Husking process. Those which are husked properly are sent forward for polishing. Polishing converts brown rice into white rice. Polishing includes Vertical whitener, Humidifier Air polishing, Grain color Sorter etc. Then grading process separates Rice, Broken rice and Wastes which is used as animal feeds. After grading Rice and broken rice are sent for packing and then to warehouse and then finally loaded in retailer trucks.
Issues and Suggestions in Process:
* Machine maintenance is the major problem of this company. This company is using old machinery which usually vibrates and is not being properly maintained by the people. As a result of this problem wastage is being increased. When machine vibrates it breaks the grains and converts them to wastage. Solution of this problem is that these machines must be maintained and checked every month to avoid this problem.
* There are many suppliers of this company which is another major issue and results in variability in quality of raw material so there must be one or two suppliers with which good relationships can be built and quality of raw material can be improved with less variability.
* Moisture is the main cause of broken rice and wastage. This company is using manual method of drying rice seed in sunlight which reduce moisturizing rate from 22% to 15-16%.In other companies automated processes are using for drying as well. We suggest that company must use both methods so more moisture can be reduced.
* Employee training is important part for improving quality in this company. People are operating these machines so we must train them so they know that how these machines operate and how they can be managed.
* Packing is being done manually in Bismillah Rice Mill so we suggest them automate their packing procedure which is being implemented in other companies also. It will reduce lead time and errors in packing.
* As mentioned above that whole process is automated so we recommend that machines should have transparent bodies so we can see all the process in front of our eye and catch the problem at spot which will eliminate the need of inspection.
Leadership
We observed that this organization is using quality through leadership by implementing various quality standards and quality policies. Some of which are as under

* To maintain strong relationship with the suppliers.
* To undertake regular maintenance of plant & machinery to enhance their productivity and retain process capability
Quality standards
Bismillah rice Mill is maintaining quality standards in all areas of its operations. The company procures the best quality of paddy and processes it in automated machine to convert it into finished rice. The company has the ability to check the quality of rice before sending to the customer. The professional's and supervisors are there to analyze the quality standards in different areas of the firm and ensure that the finest quality of rice is processed. The company has the latest sorting and grinding capability. This firm is also offering the premium quality rice matured from 18- 24 months. Experienced professionals are at work with dedication to enhance the quality matching the international standards.
This company is using continuous improvement through their high technology machine which helps them sorting best, medium and waste rice. Leaders and professionals are very much concerned about the quality and progress of employees; they have complete check on employees to ensure that they are doing their work with any defect and introduce new methods and techniques to improve the process. But still this company has so much room to improve. The top management also makes quality plans for the employees for each area to maintain quality.
Supervisory leadership
Supervisor plays an extremely important role in Bismillah rice mill. The supervisors are trained to motivate their employees so that they work efficiently and effectively without any stress. It is the duty of a supervisor to get best out of every employee without giving them any stress this all activity is done to gain the trust of the employees. The team is made by the supervisor for the manual process and the best team in term of performance is being rewarded with incentives. The supervisor also sees the process if any problem occurs in the machine or in any area of a process he is the one to fix it. Supervisors in this company with all these activities are promoting customer satisfaction because with all these activities he gets quality which ultimately leads customer satisfaction.
Public Responsibility and Citizenship
Bismillah rice mill is not playing major role in supporting community and social development. According to our observation this firm can contribute to our society but they are not doing it. As it an automated process the firm should focus on its employee safety and make their firm environment friendly. They should also support their community by giving charities and contributions to enhance their status.
