Topographic Map Writing Assignment Mr. Caban
A group of friends and I were just walking around my house one day and my buddy Parker says, "Guys tomorrow is supposed to be nice day. Let's go hiking!" We all were talking about the rest of the day if we should. We came up with an agreement that 5 of us would go. Myself, Parker, Kyle, Eric, and Fedz decided that we would be the ones to go. His actual name is Matt but we call him that because of his last name. I also decided to bring my dog Willow. She is an Alaskan malamute, a hybrid of a husky. We decided to go to Hickory Creek Trail. We packed our bags the next day and drove out. It was about an hour drive. It was about eight when we got there. We all agreed to camp out first and walk in the morning. We walked about a mile in the trail and camped at the 100 foot contour line crosses the path on the map.
We headed out at noon. We all had big travel bags on our back with food, water and other supplies we might need. Willow even had her own little bag on her back. She didn't like but I wasn't going to carry her things. We started walking to the first camp site that we marked on the map. The elevation of the site was 561 to 579. We didn't know the exact elevation but we knew it was 561 to 579 because the contour line before was 560, and there wasn't another line saying 580, so it had to between these two numbers. It didn't take long to get there but we camped there anyway. Fedz and Eric decided to go get some food. Parker, Kyle and I stared putting up shelter. We all weren't that tired because we hiked up the hill on the south side because the steepness of the hill was less on that side. It took them an hour to come back with food because the river they fished at was a few miles away. If you look at the map it was exactly 1.8 miles. They caught enough fish to feed ever one and the dog. The shelter we put up were tents. We built a fire to put in the center of the camp. We cooked the fish on the fire. We all talked about how our lives have been going. We all went to sleep about midnight. Willow sleep with me because she my dog so it makes sense.
The next morning we started early because we knew that we had a lot of elevation changes and the camp was far away. On our way to the camp site we past the river that Eric and Fedz fished at the night before. We found that the river flowed south. We came to this conclusion by the elevation decreases toward the south, and water flows down hill. We filled up the water bottles and started walking again. Half way from the camp my dog got away and caught a bird. I thought for a second and said maybe she is hungry, and then I notice I was too. So we took a break and ate. This was about 425 feet elevation , where we ate. The gradient from the second
