CHARACTERISTIC assigned to investigate: AGE

SAMPLE ID:   G

TITLE:  To investigate the relationship between age and the reaction time for 100 people chosen from Fastville.

Introduction: Reaction time is the amount of time it takes to respond to a stimulus. The aim of this experiment is to determine how age affects the reaction time for the 100 people chosen from Fastville. The hypotheses is as age increases, the reaction time increases.

Method:  1) Simple random sampling technique is used for age and reaction. Reaction time with respective to their age is collected from 100 people randomly chosen from Fastville.

2) Simple random sampling is used because it guarantee that the sample chosen is representative of the Fastville population.

3) The sample chosen from Fastville population is aged between 8-74 years old

4) A scatterplot of reaction time against age is plotted to determine the relationship between them.

5) A residual plot is plotted to find out whether the data fits the linear relationship.

Results and Analysis:

  1. The data obtained using a scatterplot shows there is a strong positive association as the correlation value is 0.84 which is strong. The R-square value for the scatterplot of reaction time against age is 0.6995. The R-Squared value tell us that close to 70% of reaction time can be explained by the age. The data points are randomly scattered on either side along the linear trend line of residual plot, this shows that the linear model is suitable for the data. The equation for the linear model relationship is Reaction time = 0.0031(Age)+0.2005. The value of the slope for this equation is 0.0031 and represents as age increases by 1 year the reaction time increases by a factor of 0.0031.
  2. The overall reaction time for the sample is 0.319261sec

Discussion: The results fit with the aim as it shows a strong positive association between age and reaction time. The results are consistent with other investigations of age on reaction time, in a experiment carried out by
