Firstly, media refers to various means of communication. For example, television, radio, and the newspaper are different types of media. This term also can be used as a collective noun for the press or news reporting agencies. Today, the term “media” is used and abused, it can mean different things to different people. Whereas the definition of social media is “the relationship that exist between network or people” (Walter & Riviera, 2004). In the previous years, the online world has created. Thanks to the creation of social media, people nowadays can exchange thoughts, individual data and even images at a surprising rate. Each day, numerous of teenagers are putting in infinite hours in social media application. For example, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and My space. At first, we may think that social media applications may appear like an exercise in futility, however it benefits the teenagers by helping the youngsters create essential learning abilities. At the current situation, regardless of whether web-based social media applications are ideal or troublesome, many people still use these regularly.
As social media applications keep on growing, it is our belief that technology is an essential piece of the today’s teenager pathway to achieve greatness. Tons of researches have been keep jumping into researches on how media influences student on learning among teenagers. Many guardians of their teenager in home are concerned about their child investing excessively energy and time on media for learning purpose. Will it be efficient? Is it a good way on learning? Therefore, our purpose is ascertains the relationship between media and learning of the teenagers.
1.1 Problem Statement
According to XXX, 22% of youngster open their social media application more than 11 times a day, and more than half of the teenagers log in to Facebook more than once a day. 78% of youngsters use their phone for social purpose. Nancy Jo Sales on her latest book “American Girls: Social Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagers” state that over 70% of youngster are on their smartphones all the time, no matter in school, in bed around evening, when they go to the washroom, while you are having conversation with them and even when they are completing their assignments. - There is a relationship between the way teenagers spent their time on social media application and influences of media on learning.
- There is a relationship between the problem of overly-friendly social media tools and the influences of media on learning.
1.3 Research Objective
To address the relationship between media learning and teenagers, the question that played around in our head is what are the influences of media on learning among teenagers? Research of this topic will begin to find out social media is basically the tool that how teenagers associate with each other and it will affect teenagers’ grade by getting addiction.
Thus, the objective of this research is to
- How many percent of SS15’s students use online learning method.
- How students of SS15 think about online learning
1.4 Scope of Study
Focus on current generation that aged between 12 to 19 years old, whom are mostly secondary school students and college students. This research will be targeting students in SS15 Subang Jaya. The purpose of collecting data was to perform a group research on why teenagers will get influenced by media easily.
1.5 Significant
At the end of this research, finding of this research shows the attractiveness of media among students and teenagers. This is a guideline for students to use media. Due to the power of media to enhance connection by making them effortlessly available, media like social media can yield tons of benefits to the current generations. The current generations are mostly connected with Internet and social media, not only making friends with stranger in social but they could also use it as a revision tools for academic purpose. If teenagers use this in a good way, they are able to learn well and score well in their future.
2.0 Media
Media is the collective platform or devices that are utilized to store and convey data or information. It is either connected with the communication media, or the specific mass media communication tool such as broadcast media in the form of radio, television and film, print media(newspaper, magazine and book) or even digital media(internet, email, social applications).
In the world, media can be divided into two different types: Traditional Media and Modern Media. Traditional Media and Modern Media are both existing in the current generations. Traditional Media can be referred as old media, it has been utilized for marking and publicizing purposes in the pass. When relates with marketing, old Print Media such as newspaper and magazine advertisement are the best way conducted in business to reach the organization’s target audience. In spite of the fact that old media is useful in the pass but as the invention of technology getting more and more advance, many organization decided to switch the modern media to promote their product.
Modern Media can be referred to new media, it has been used for the entertaining and socializing purposes nowadays. People rely on new media to discover new information, it shows that new media is effortlessly available tools through a wide range of digital medias. The examples of Modern Media are Digital Media, Visual Media, and Audio Media.
2.1 SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media is a term that we toss around nowadays, it often used to describe what we post on social application such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. This term too general as basically it could linked with every site on the web today. By breaking it down “Social” means interacting with others by sharing information to them and accepting data from them. “Media” can be referred as the tools of communication such as Internet. So, Social media means an electronic-based communication tools that empower individuals to associate with each other by sharing and receiving data. In this era, teenagers of Asian countries are familiar with social media: they know to interact with their friends in social media application, make new friends with strangers or even earn profits on social media platform.
