CASE ANALYSIS

I.WELL-IMPLEMENTED OF CRISIS (ACCIDENT) PREPARATIONS

  1. WELL-IMPLEMENTED MANAGEMENT CONCEPT (PLANNING, ORGANIZING, ACTUATING, CONTROLLING).

In management point of view, there will be some basic areas where we can analyze more deeply regarding the rescuing processes did in Chile. First is good implementation of PLANNING used by Chile government. Chile Government which is directly lead by the president, Mr. Sebastian Pinera, made quickly and wisely actions to encounter the problem. The President tried to implement Contingency Planning by providing 3 kinds of planning which are plan A, B, and C to help those 33 miners. The awesome thing was the president not even prioritizing a certain plan, but he tried to implement those plans simultaneously.

The second concept is a great ORGANIZING. Sebastian Pinera did well coordination and internal consolidation regarding the attempt to do the rescue. To gather funds, Pinera appealed to all mining companies in Chile, especially for bigger mining companies to assist amount of money to support the needs of this humanity activity or mission. Pinera also forced general attorney in Chile to help the process of liquidating wages or salary of those 33 miners to the needs of the miners’ family. Some Psychiatrists were employed to control the traumatic of the miners through earth surface. In order to fulfill the technology or other needed tools, Pinera tried to ask the help from other countries as well as from UN. United States through NASA helped to create great capsule which is called “phoenix” which was used as the tool to take up those 33 miners. NASA also provided foods which are usually eaten by astronauts which contain highly nutrients to help the nutrients needed by the miners. Moreover, some experts regarding the activity bounded space from NASA also invited and accompanied the victims since the rescue processes done. A mining exploitation expert from US who was working in Afghanistan also employed to Chile and worked very hard along 33 days to monitor of rescue processes. Pinera also got funds from Australian government to help the drilling process as well as the Japanese government that facilitated the communication tools (High technology) to the miners and the rescuer on surface.

Chile also implemented good ACTUATING management. The rescuing processes of those 33 miners are very phenomenal because of the rescuing mission was highlighted by media in the world. It was happened as the bright role of Pinera in seriousness of fulfilling his promise since the presidential campaign. He did the rescuing process by prioritizing the safety of those 33 miners even Chile has to spend a lot of money. Pinera used humanity approach in the rescuing process. It means that he really care of the safety of victims rather than considering other alternative solutions which can prevent to emerge another crisis, but dangerous to miners’ soul. Pinera though that humanity approach is the best approach in defining the successful of rescuing processes.
