A summary of ’’ The Fox Cub’’

The short story is called ‘’ The fox Cub’’ and its written by Jackie Brewster. Jackie is born in 1971 and lives in Nottingham.

The short story is about two girls called Marie and Rachel. Marie is just moved to the village and she is 13 years old. Rachel and Marie met each other on the playing field. Marie felt like she was an adult, she tries to look older than she is. Rachel thinks that it is too much, and it doesn’t make her prettier. Marie has been with a guy witch was a 16 years old boy.

Marie tells Rachel that she has a fox cub at her house, and Rachel wants to see it. On the way home to Marie, Rachel discover that Marie is living in a farmhouse, with dusty windows and no garden flowers. Marie has never been at Rachel’s house, because Rachel knows that her mother won’t like her. When Rachel sees the fox cub, she gets disappointed, because, its not a fox cub, but just a fox, Marie wants to raise it as a pet, but it is actually nearly dead.

Characterize Marie

Marie is a 13 year old who acts like an adult and dresses like an adult. She has canvas shoes on and a baggy blue cardigan. She wears make up, and a pink lipstick on her thin lips, witch Rachel doesn’t think looks pretty on her. Rachel thinks that Marie looks too grown up. And Rachel does not thinks that Marie is pretty to begin with, even though she wears all that makeup. Marie is new in the village, and doesn’t have many friends. She is very out turned, and that scares Rachel. Marie is very different from Marie. Marie has been with a 16-year-old boy, and she is not afraid to talk about it, in public. There is something about Marie that Rachel think her mother would not like, that’s why Marie not has been at Rachel house. Marie is living in a farmhouse with dusty windows, there is no garden flowers. There is a dog on the farm, and her cousin is also on the farm. The farm is littered with broken pallets and piles of dog muck.

Comment on the differences between Rachel and Marie

There is a big different on Rachel and Marie. Marie comes from a poor family, or maybe just a family with small money. I get that perspective because of the description in the text of the house, and the way Marie is. For example, when Marie ask Rachel about her sex life. Marie didn’t have a bike or roller skates. Rachel is more from a fine family, where you don’t talk about sex in public. Rachel had a bike, so compared to Marie’s family, I think that Rachel’s family had a lot of money. Rachel thinks that Marie is a lire. And I think that it is Rachel who is the most grown up, for example ‘’ It was a dirty lie, and if her mother found out what Marie was saying up at the playing field, Rachel might not be allowed to come out and play. It was a dangerous talk.’’  They comes from two completely different families.
