Teresa and Maurice Wellingtons Similarities
Even though Teresa and Maurice respond differently to certain situations, they are more similar because both deal with struggles by bravery and acceptance of others.
They are both socially rejected. Teresa is socially rejected because she is in a wheel chair and her friends don't come to see her any more. Maurice is socially rejected because nobody wants the dieses he has because there is no cure.
In the Kayak Teresa is socially rejected because she say's "my close friends tried a little harder but after 2 or 3 visits they stopped coming around". In Moonface it say's "that his friends stopped coming out to the farm to play because his parents didn't want them to get the disease".
Why Teresa is socially rejected is because her friends can't stand her being in a wheel chair that has lack of mobility. Also she wanted Jamie to go away because she has been rejected so many times she thought that he would treat her the same as every one else. Why Maurice was socially rejected is because he had a disease that was not possible to cure so the towns people tried to get his family out if town by burning his tool shed and slashing the car tires when they went to town.
The second way that they are similar is they both have a big decision to make.
In the Kayak the decision that decision that she had to make is when Jamie say's "would you like to join me and my friends at a campfire tonight". In Moonface the big decision for him is when the other kid say's "if you come with me, you will never be able to return to earth".
