A. Apply the SDLC approach to Hoosier Burger.
The life cycle of SDLC consist of four phases: (1) planning and selections; (2) analysis; (3) design; and (4) implementation and operation (Valacich 2009). In the planning and selection phase, Bob, Thelma, and the consultant (analyst), will recognize the need for improvement in the existing Hoosier Burger system that they created. They would need to translate their needs to projects that will provide solutions for their business. Their daily deliverables would need an inventory control system; they need a new order system for their customer so that customers can order at the counter quickly and efficiently. Finally, they need to create a system that combines data from the other system that can then be presented to the management group. With the scope at hand, they three needs to asset the priority and the risk involve in each and how feasible will the system be.
During the system analysis, the analyst would examine Hoosier Burger to determine the system requirements and then structure these requirements. After that the analyst has to generative alternative design strategies. During the design phase, both logical and physical designs are prepared. For the logical design, the analyst concentrates on the business aspect of Hoosier Burger. Then for the physical design, the analyst would turn the logical design into physical design specifications. Finally, during the system implementation and operations, the design specifications for the new Hoosier Burger system becomes deploy and any further modification to the new system are made when warranted(Valacich 2009).
B. Using the Hoosier Burger scenario, identify an example of each system characteristic.
There are seven characteristics to a system (Valacich 2009). A system is made up of components. An example of one of the components of Hoosier burger is the ordering system. On the other hand, the order and inventory system are interrelated components since the function of one is tied to the function of the other (Valacich 2009). The boundary encompasses all three system that we discussed from earlier. The purpose of Hoosier Burger is to make a profit for the owners and to provide quality products and services to the customers. The environment consists of the customers, suppliers, funding agencies and other regulatory agencies. The interface is the counter where the customer meets the system. The input is the order, the sales receipt is the out, and the constraint is the health regulations.
C. Decompose Hoosier Burger into its major subsystems.
The major subsystems for Hoosier burger is inventory, food and management reporting. Food can also be decompose further into food ordering and food preparation.
D. Briefly summarize the approaches to systems development discussed
