Introduction
System Development Cycle (SDLC) is the process of understanding how an information system can support business needs, designing the system, build it, and deliver it to users.
Methodology is a formalized approach to implementing the SDLC (it is a list of steps and deliverables). There are variety of system development methodologies, each one is unique because of its emphasis on processes versus data and the order and focus it places on each SDLC phase.
All systems development methodologies lead to a representation of the system concept in terms of processes and data; however they vary in terms of whether the methodology places primary emphasis on business processes or on the data that supports the business.
Therefore we have:
i. Process - centered methodologies which focus first on defining the activities associated with the system- processes. Process centered utilizes process models as the core of the system concept. Analyst concentrated initially on representing the system concept as a set of processes with in formation flowing into and out of the processes.
