Super Size Me

Morgan Spurlock did the "super size me" experiment. Which consisted of eating McDonald's 3 times a day for 30 days. He had to follow 4 rules, which were he had to eat every item on the menu at least once, never super size unless offered, he had to go through with the experiment, and everything he ate had to be over the counter. He started experiencing all the effects of eating only fast food. He went from being in shape to gaining 24.5 pounds in a month. He went from 185 lbs. to almost 210 lbs. His cholesterol changed drastically, his liver turned to fat, and gaining cirrhosis of the liver. He did the experiment to see what would happen if people eat to much fast food as most Americans do. This experiment may see a little drastic, but a lot of Americans do eat fast food 3 times a day 7 days a week. In the movie he also interviewed gym teachers, to see if kids in America get enough exercise in a week, nutritionists, to see how many times a person should actually eat fast food, and doctors, to see if what happened to his liver could actually happen. Doctors never thought it was possible but apparently it is they had just never seen it happen before. They did not expect cirrhosis of liver to happen with fast food, because it usually happens with alcoholics.

This film also shows how eating bad know can effect you 30 to 40 years later in your life, not right away. It shows how it can lead to diabetes, cholesterol problems, heart disease, and liver failure. He also explored lunch programs and how they affect the eating habits of the youth. To see if they encourage health eating or bad eating habits. He also talks about the extremes people go through to lose weight to get healthy. For example, liposuction and getting the band to shrink your stomach size. He stated that if you are a parent that exercises bad eating habits, your kids will develop the same eating habits. The film won Spurlock honors as best director at the Sundance Film Festival.
