SUMMARY
Passing through an interview for a role within your current company can seem like a breeze. You know how the organization works, you know the people involved in the process and you have a successful performance that should speak for itself. Based on that, it is clear that applying for an internal job could seem simpler than it actually is. Changing to a different role within the same company entails a challenge as well. Notwithstanding the advantages that you have for knowing the organization and its people, you shouldn’t misjudge the interviewing process and take for granted your new position just based on past accomplishments and good references you have.
All of the above could lead to a false sense of security, a shortage of proper preparation and underperformance on the day. For an internal interview, you need to prepare just as meticulously as you would for an external one and it is essential to sell yourself just as hard.
Do not forget that the decision-makers will have to rationalize their decision to hire based on hard evidence collected in the interview process itself. Past achievements and good references are useful but they do not replace a strong performance on the day.
Based on the above, the objectve of this paper is to understand the process of and develop a few reccomendations on how to succeed at an internal recruitment or promotion process.
