In our case, it start with involving all the relevance agencies connected to answering the research question which is " exploring the complex challenges that same-gender couples and their children face as a result of public policy that exclude them from civil marriage."
The procedure and techniques use by these researchers for gathering information from the population to be study involve clearly fits our definition of research method called random selection: the key to generalization.
This process began with the study and analysis of the 1990 US census bureau report. This was the first time house hold members are asked to identify another household member with whom they had a relationship as unmarried partner.
-The result, a little over a 145,000
This process of collecting data on unmarried partner household of the same and opposite gender continued in the 2000 census revealing an alarming result of a little over a half a million.
To be able to see how the researchers examine the effects from multiple perspectives ranging from personal, couple, parental, child, family or even community, here is how the 2000 census data on this issue was broken down....
Breaking the data this way was crucial in allowing the researchers to generalize their results to a broader population and help eliminate bias when evaluating theories and arriving at conclusions.
