In his essay, "On Reading a Video Text," Robert Scholes describes effects of visual, emotional and cultural messages contained in video texts. Scholes argues that viewer doesn't have to be completely aware of the of cultural information they might absorb in a video text. The information is 'read' from the visual narrative. Photographic technique, lighting and music illustrates video text's meaning and communicated message. Visual information, associative influence, and narrative play are all something a commercial uses for perceived need for a product. Scholes also discusses a commercial creation process of identifying a cultural with society's highest ideals. Visual enhancements keep the viewers focused on the story narrative. Finally, Scholes finds importance in media literacy, for American consumers to make conscious and reasoned decisions."2012:

Out from under the concert rubble, headlights appear and large Chevy truck lunges forward.
Very dusty and dirty man looks around with a smile on his face. A large , seatbelted dog sits, bewildered center back seat. As the man drives through the city he drives under the leg of a huge robot. The camera pans out to reveal a large silver flying saucer, erupting volcano and a metero. the suvivior now drives into a new city where three, equally dirty men stand in a circle waiting for him. "Where is Dave?" survivior asks? "Dave didn't drive a chevy he drove a ford." The man across from him stolically states. Another man smiles to cheer him up and offers him a Twinkie.
