Gloried Self
* Dimensions of self created or expanded by glory: (Ex: people develop a different sense of self when they're in the spot light)
* Reflected self- image reflected by other people in the athlete's life (Ex: it's like Cooley's idea, the looking glass. You decide how others see you as and you develop this self image of yourself)
* Media self- image presented in media reports (Ex: one quality of you gets focused on too much and the rest is ignored, also it's like an athlete that's always presented that he's raised by his grandmother)
* Self-aggrandizement (Ex: people develop a great big ego)
* Inhibiting (stopping or restraining) factors
o Own feelings of fear and insecurity (Ex: an athletes ego is broken after an injury and recovery because he fears and is insecure that it will happen again and he may not perform as well)
o Discount flattery of others as exaggerated or false (Ex: you hear a certain thing so often that you start to think, "okay they really don't know me, they're just trying to pump me up, and it's not really one" basically you don't believe people's compliments to you)
o Actions of coach or peer subculture to puncture inflated teammates
o Coach normalizes athlete's experiences and reactions (Ex: it's like coach say's oh yea, you were supposed to be good and make that goal, it's not a big deal)
* Enhancing factors
o The special nature of the job they do (Ex: not everyone can do what your doing)
o Concrete results of behavior (Ex: you constantly get positive results from what your trying to do, for example, you keep making the basket or you keep getting good grades)
o The allure of glory and its ego boost (Ex: people saying nice things to you all the time and making you feel special basically)
o Strong investment in the athlete role (Ex: it's that investment of time and hard work to get where you are and so when it pays off, your extra happy, your ego rises)
* Consequences of a gloried self:
* Self-immediacy-loss of future orientation (Ex: you don't focus on future because your so caught up with who you are and your gloried self. You're an athlete and you don't study till the last minute because you have a "who cares" attitude)
* Diminished awareness-desensitization to the concerns of their old selves
* Self-detachment-detachment between gloried self and other selves (Ex: athlete doesn't even bother to go to class anymore, they separate from family and self)
