Scorpions Information Report
Scorpions are arthropods, which has eight legs, two pedipalps and a tail with a venom injecting barb. Scorpions have two venom glands that produce venom and this is most needed when scorpions are hunting. It also can be used to protect them. Scorpions are nocturnal which means they are active in night and sleeping in the morning. Scorpions do not have bones instead they have an exoskeleton made of chitin. Their average life span is 3-8 years. They have been around for millions of years.
Habitat
Scorpions can be observed in many type of habitats. Mostly scorpions are located in deserts and semi arid regions. Scorpions can also live in the Brazilian forests and even the Himalayas. Scorpions are most active during the night, although they can also be seen during the day where it is cool and moist.
` Diet
Scorpions eat a variety of insects, spiders, other scorpion and lizards. They can also eat small mammals such as mice. Scorpions must have water but they don't need much food to survive. Scorpions use their pincers to capture prey and crush it as well. They use stingers to inject the venom into human bodies. The venom makes the victim paralysed and easier for them to eat.
Appearance
A scorpion has eight legs not including its pinchers. The forward appendages are with large pinchers. There latter is venomous and may poison any victim that is attacked. The body of the scorpion is usually long and it is much darker than its legs. Its colour depends on what type of specie it is. The main scorpions are dark yellow with pale yellow legs.
Size
Scorpions ranges from 9mm tom 20 cm long including its tail. The Texan scorpion grows up to 6.3 cm long.
Behaviour
Scorpions are nocturnal hunters. Scorpions don't go looking for their food. They wait until their foods comes to them. The tiny hairs on the legs detect if something is moving. Scorpions defend themselves by using its tail. It is not aggressive until it feels like it is threatened. Then it is violent.
