User Manual Critique
The purpose of manuals is to supply instructions for the applied user. The purpose of this document is to critique the manual created to show users step by step instructions on how to use the Samsung C6530. The most important things to look for regarding criteria are relevant content, visual appeal, organization, and audience consideration. The cover page is the first thing a user will notice when looking at a manual because the cover gives the manual identification (Gerson & Gerson, 2012). This manual is missing that aspect regarding the name of the product, but everything else states that it is a manual for a Samsung led TV. A user could have multiple Samsung TVs with two different manual, which could cause a mix up when trying to locate the manual.
Page two adds to the problem because the next thing most users will be looking for is a table of contents. A table of contents provides the reader with insight into the contents of each page, so just in case the users need to know particular information he or she knows exactly where to go (Gerson & Gerson, 2012). Even though the table of contents is a bit out of place, it is still perfectly constructed. The layout of the page is the first thing noticed before the proper grammar and correct spelling. All of the contents on the right side of the page are lined up with the panels on the left side of the page. The panels also direct users exactly where they need to be rather they are just getting started or want to know all of the advanced features. There are 54 pages available broken up in five sections lead by these labeled panels
Once the user gets past the missing information on the cover of the manual and the table of contents being two pages down, the manual is a lot more appealing and very helpful to mostly any applicable user. The instructions are clear, concise, and the illustrations are flawless.
The manual covers every apect of the Samsung C6530 without letting the user know its for that particular model. This wouldn't be a problem if this is the only tv owned in the user's residence, but most households usually carry multiple sets, sometimes in every room. Overall the manual for the Samsung C6530 is very thorough regarding content, design, and readability. Once the user get past the identification problem, and table of content misplacement, the rest of the manual is enough to compensate for its flaws.
