The Russian Revolution led to many new changes and challenges for the government. It didn't matter if you wanted it or not, you had to deal with it whether or not it benefited you. Many people had to make changes to their life in order to stay productive. The communist government was trying its best to help everyone out. But in order to make progress you had to stay peaceful and patient.

The Russian Revolution broke out because of many problems going on in Europe. Russia had not modernized yet and was still dealing with its backwardness. The political system was very rigid as society was torn by tensions and conflicts. Many people were unhappy with their way of life. They had just ended the Russo-Japanese War, in which they were brutally humiliated all because of their czar. Now they were left with shortages of food, clothing, shelter and weapons. Russia could not support the soldiers at war with Germany anymore because of money shortages. They were not able to supply them all with weapons for fighting. This was also known was New Economic Policy. Lenin's goal was designed to bring capitalism to the state and help it prosper economically. It had replaced war communism, planning to have capitalism in place until the economy was strong enough to achieve socialism. It allowed small businesses to reopen for private profit while the state continued to control banks, major industries and foreign trade. The government stopped taking away the peasants grain and let them have small plots of land and freely sell their crop surplus. This led to agriculture production increasing and farmers could make a profit from their extra crops. In order to keep their income high, factories began to sell their products at higher prices. However, unemployment rose and left a wider gap between the classes. The N.E.P. was replaced with Stalin's 5-year plan. Stalin's idea was to make the Soviet Union industrialized.
