Roles and Responsibilities of Rooms Division Staff

The Langham

The roles and responsibilities of the front of accomodation and reception services staff at The Langham are extensive given the size of the hotel and the amount of facilities and amenities on offer at all times. The duties of the front office include but are not limited to the following:

1)Book rooms to cold callers, register and check out guests.

2)Coordinate guest services acting as command central for the hotel.

3)Maintain up to date and correct room statistics and correct room key inventory.

4)Provide accurate and timely information to guests.

5)Keep guest accounts up to date and settle accounts correctly.

Reservations-The roles and responsibilities of the reservations department are straightforward and of great signifigance to the hotel.

1)Reserve and allocate room reservations as they are requested.

2)Access modern hotel reservation websites to be able to tell clients exactly which rooms are available and which amenities are available during their stay.

Housekeeping-The roles and responsibilities of the housekeeping department at the Langham are well defined and of extreme importance.

1)Inspect rooms before they are sold to assure maximum cleanliness and presentability.

2)Clean rooms which have recently been vacated and ones that are currently occupied.

3)Communicate with the front desk about current status of rooms.

4)Launder and iron all linens and towels.

5)Maintain inventory of replaceable, necessary room items such as soap and towels.

Uniformed Services-The roles and responsibilities of uniformed services are myriad at establishments such as The Langham because it is so large and because there are so many amenities on offer. The different types of uniformed services at The Langham include but are not limited to bellmen/porters, doormen, valet parking attendants, shuttle drivers, concierge, security guards and the telephone department.

1)The bellmen/porters are tasked with assisting guests with their baggage from the reception or drop off area to their rooms.

2)The doormen are tasked with coordinating baggage services upon guest arrival, controlling traffic at the hotel entrance and warmly greeting new arrivals.

3)Valet parking attendants are responsible for parking and retrieving guests automobiles.

4)The shuttle drivers are responsible for getting guests to and from the hotel.

5)The concierge is responsible for helping guest with such things as dinner reservations, securing tickets to shows or events, as well as arranging for any type of transportation.

6)Security guards are responsible for the safety and security of guests and employees. They are tasked with being on call in case of any security issues and patrolling the premises for any suspicious activity or characters.

Telephone Department-The telephone department is responsible for answering and connecting calls to the proper guestroom, extension or department. They are responsible for placing wake-up calls and coordinating any emergency services if needed. They also are responsible for protecting guests privacy.

The Parnell City Lodge

The roles and responsibilities of the accomodation and reception services staff at The Parnell City Lodge are integral to the proper functioning of the hotel. As it only has 21 rooms it is certain that reception staff is responsible for all duties except for housekeeping and security. The Parnell City Lodge does not have a reservations department bellmen, doormen, valet parking, concierge, shuttle drivers or a telephone department because their operation is too small to warrant such extra payroll expenditures. There is a housekeeping department with minimal staff, most likely two, and security is handled by an independent security contracting firm.

The Front Office is therefore responsible for:

1)Booking rooms to cold callers and registering and checking out guests.

2)Coordinating guest services.

3)Maintaining up to date and correct room statistics and correct room key inventory.

4)Providing accurate and timely information to guests.

5)Keeping guest accounts up to date and settling accounts correctly.

6)Reserve and allocate room reservations as they are requested.

8)Acting as concierge. The concierge is responsible for helping guest with such things as dinner reservations, securing tickets to shows or events, as well as arranging for any type of transportation.

The Lantana Lodge International Backpackers

The roles and responsibilities of accomodation and reception staff are many as it is certain that all roles are carried out by the live in owners of the establishment. The Lantana Lodge does not have a reservations department bellmen, doormen, valet parking, concierge, shuttle drivers or a telephone department because their operation is too small to warrant such extra payroll expenditures. Therefore their duties are as follows:

2)Coordinating guest services.
