Professional Knowledge and Abilities
Professional Knowledge and abilities are require in order to be successful in a career. By gaining the knowledge and abilities in a career, it will allow anyone to function to the fullest of one's capacity. These qualities will be better learn in an education setting or throughout one's career.
In order to be effective in a career one needs professional knowledge, skills, education, knowing what one wants out of life, be able to manage one's time effectively, and be able to set short and long term goals. Therefore, when selecting a professional association or organization one needs to think of an association or organization that have to do with the field that one is studying. By pursuing an association or organization in our field of study, it will help one with its career success.
The association that I selected is the "American Hospital Association, or AHA. The American Hospital Association is the National organization that represents and serves all hospitals, health care networks, patients, and the communities." (AHA, 2006-2011, About section, para. 1) The American Hospital Association was founded in 1898, it is a nonprofit organization, primarily member dues fund it and also for financial support it accepts funding from businesses and other organizations that believe in it same objective and goals. The American Hospital Association headquarters are located in Washington, it serves 40,000 individual members, about 5,000 hospitals including health networks systems, and other providers are combining to form the American Hospital Association. It delivers education for health care leaders and is an informant on health care problems and developments. The American Hospital Association "vision is of a society of healthy communities, where all individuals reach their highest potential of health" (AHA, Mission section, para. 2). In 1937 when the idea of voluntary prepayment was controversial, the American Hospital Association founded the Hospital Service Plan Commission, now known as Blue Cross. American Hospital Association was instrumental in establishing the Commission On Financing of Hospital Services that led to recognize the special health care problems of the elderly and ended in the Medicare legislation of 1965. The American Hospital Association has pursued always the needs of the community and health improvement.
