Long-term projects can be difficult for a team of people. In a business setting, plans can help to increase employee motivation, satisfactions, and performance. Discussing communication techniques and developing a plan can help employees collaborate and work more effectively together. Developing a plan to be cognitive of employee's motivation and work performance can be positive to the project and company.

Group Motivation, Satisfaction, and Performance

When working together as a group on a long-term project, planning strategies to keep staff motivated, satisfied, and keeping performance at quality standards and above are key. Long-term projects can quickly bore employees and make them feel unchallenged. Creating an incentive program can help with keeping employees motivated, satisfied, challenged, and keep productivity up. Develop target goals throughout the project for the employees to reach and they will receive an incentive for achieving that goal. Incentives can be paid time off or a cash bonus. Long-term projects are challenging when the work is repetitive but keeping the project interesting with target goals will keep production even and employees motivated and satisfied.

A positive feature about being part of a long term project is the potential outcomes the projects can lead to for an employee. If the project does well, employee can receive a raise or monetary bonus as well potential promotions with the company. Reminding employees that the outcome of the project will help their future can be motivator for them. People are driven by different motivators and understanding the differences and being sensitive and aware of each person's motivation is important for success.

Influencing Behavior

There are many attributes that can influence behavior. Attitudes, emotions, personalities, and value will be affected, depending on the collaboration of people. These attributes can affect the team and possibly the outcomes of the project.

Attitudes can create conflict in the group and ultimately team unity. Attitudes need to stay positive and focus on plan to complete the project. Attitudes can affect other team members who can cause distractions and the team can lose focus of the project.

Bringing emotions into the team can create distractions and breaks in planning and achieving goals. A strong personality can potentially control group discussions, and create tension with other team member who has a weaker personality. Weaker personalities can feel that their opinions are not valued or important, which can cause resentment to the others in the group.
