19. What is Walter Bern's specific purpose for writing to Mrs. Beaudoin? (1 mark)
Walter Bern's purpose in writing the letter is to provide Mrs. Beaudoin information on how to accumulate points with the BBP.
20. In one sentence, comment on the tone of Walter's letter. (1 mark)
The letter has a friendly and conversational tone and occasionally cultivates the "you" view.
21. In three sentences, comment on the content organization in Walter's letter. (3 marks)
1. The sentence about the brochure seems to come really late in the letter and I feel it should have been earlier as it explains the program.
2. I feel too much time is spent talking about the cruise in the first paragraph and that should have been devoted to introducing the points program and informing the customer about activating the credit card, as that is the key to accumulating those points.
3. I feel the paragraph where Walter lists "For 10,000 points, you can cruise the Mediterranean..." would be better understood if it is organized in a list format.
22. Provide two examples with supportive evidence to describe how the content of the letter is on topic. (4 marks)
1) The paragraph about the "But first, you must activate the BBP credit card..." is on topic. It starts by talking about the card, its sign up process. It then talks about the benefits of making purchases on the card in relation to collecting points.
2) "We hope you will take advantage of the BBP and its fantastic cost savings" also is on topic as it comes after all the benefits have been explained.
