One of the biggest things you’ll hear someone say these days is “your generation is killing childhood” and this may be one of the most common and correct statement. Our generation is being introduced to technology at a very young age. Picture yourself at your favorite restaurant. You are likely on your phone while waiting for your food to arrive and so is everyone else, from couples on a date to the young children who are playing games on some sort of tablet or idevice. Let's face it, technology and social media controls a large portion of our lives. The normality and values of our society have now been majorly influenced by our modern culture to the point where our lives are almost controlled by our smartphones, TV’s, computers, gaming systems. We live in a modern culture so intertwined with technology that it has caused children to not have an innocent childhood like most children did even five years ago, maybe even three. Modern culture is ruining childhood by exposing them a multitude of adult things through internet access and grow up quickly through social media and other outlets.
Through Internet access through smart devices (phones, computers TVs, ect.), many children are getting to know the harsh truths of the world and are starting to fear the world. A blog from Education Week, 98% of families surveyed have a mobile device and the children that were studied had their screen time triple since 2013. They spend a average of two hours and nineteen minutes on screens a day, but they aren't using that time on TV screens. They are spending it on a mobile device, parents may not be aware what their kids are doing they could be looking at youtube, netflix, mobile games, and even advertisements portray the brutality of this world where young and innocent children can see. Most modern children have Internet access with little restrictions and stumble upon things that are way too mature for their young minds.
