ream is prototypically as their dream. For instance, through their journey George is awaken by the impossibility of the dream because he knew they would never have the farm, yet only Lennie's childish personality kept the tiny light of hope alive. Their dream is not the only impossible one; Curley's wife who is a huge flirt had numerous desires to be in Hollywood. When she confided to Lennie about not liking Curley she says, " 'Couda been in the movies, an' had nice clothes-all them nice clothes like they wear. An' I coulda sat in them big hotels, an' had pitchers took of me. When they had them previews I coulda went to them.' " This particular quote means that even though after she resigned herself to a unfulfilling marriage she still had these fantasies of having beautiful clothes and going to major premieres. The author uses these characters to prove that by trying to accomplish the American dream in those circumstances are impossible, because they can only hope and dream for a better life. Furthermore, what makes all of these dreams typically American is that the dreamers wish for polished happiness and for the freedom to follow their own desires.
