Case:: How microenvironment issues are affecting HR practices?

HRM practices refer to organizational activities directed at managing the pool of human resources and ensuring that the resources are employed towards the fulfillment of organizational goals. After reviewing the existing literature on HRM practices, the researchers have found that HRM practices get affected by external and internal factors and directly or indirectly affect other variables such as employee’s attitude, employee employer relations, financial performance, employee productivity etc. and ultimately contribute to overall corporate performance.HRM practices differ from one country to another and the factors which affect the HRM practices include external and internal factors.

Today, we have seen that trends like globalization, indebtedness, and technology confront employers with new challenges, such as squeezing more profits from operations. Employers expect their human resource managers to have what it takes to address these challenges. So, the macro environmental issues that are affecting the HR practices are:

Change in the nature of work: technological developments are changing the very nature of work. It means that the HR managers will have to put increasing importance on human capital and their skill.

Human resources activities are getting integrated at the global level. Globalization and deregulation has deeply affected the functioning of traditional HRM. Therefore, HR managers must have adequate dynamism and action plans to help these organizations successfully integrate their global HR operations.

There will be a greater emphasis on HRIS due to all the mergers and acquisitions that are taking place will result in larger farm. Thus HR managers will be relieved to duties like updating information scheduling employee training, but at the same time HR managers will have to ensure that HRIM is working properly.

Change in the labor market condition due to increased industrialization has thrown up many challenges to HR managers, uneven economic condition can cause must larger unemployment, and thus HR managers have to concentrate on long term plans instead of short term plans.

Increasing importance of HPWS, especially due to globalization has forced the HR managers to concentrate highly on performance and productivity of employees to make the organization efficient.

Last but not the least, growing needs for measurement tools to evaluate HR performance has compelled HR managers to focus on the development to accurate HR tools to measure the efficiency of HR functions.

Therefore, in conclusion, we can say that, due to the macroeconomic issues like globalization, competition, change in labor force and market condition, today’s human resource managers are more involved in longer term, strategic big picture issues. They Use New Ways to Provide Transactional Services. They have to manage Ethics and employee engagement. And most importantly, they add value to the organization.
