Golden Door
The end
The end of the movie shows to us that Salvatore with Lucy and his family are swimming in the milk. There are also the rest of the people that came to the U.S., which shows the same dream and goal for all immigrants. In my opinion milk means something natural and this shows us that they are swimming for a good and comfortable life. In our daily life milk is a basic product. We can make a lot of stuff from milk, such a cheese and butter. Probably all the people dream to make perfect lives. Even if there is no milk, and they are swimming just in the water, it means a lot. Why they are swimming and not walking? My answer is: our first nine months before we get born are in the water, that’s why they are swimming. They will start a new life. The mother decided to go back home because she is old and used to her life, probably she just want to pass away in the same place where she was born. We are not able to see what will happen with them in the new world, but we can hope that all of them will be happy with a new life.
