Gender equality is a term used to describe the view that men and women should receive equal treatment and should not be discriminated against based on their gender.

Today I am here to protest against gender inequality and to promote and protect gender equality and would like to do so by using 3 text I studied .

I recently studied Proverbs 31, The story of the wife of noble character. In the text the woman is shown to be. balanced and self-sufficient. She is an entrepreneur and buys and sells land for her own use. Her husbands supports her and together they form a whole .

This text promotes gender equality, however this does not reflect positively into reality, as it is not the situation in our society. Traditional and customary law undermines the constitutional rights of women, which promotes gender inequality.

Another text I studied that promotes gender equality is an electronic article posted on thegaurdian.com, titled “Namibia's 'zebra' politics could make it stand out from the global herd” . In this article they discuss an announcement made by the ruling party SWAPO, back in 2014 were they committed to not only fill half their seats in parliament with woman but also committed to a system were if the minister is female the deputy minister would be male and vice versa.

This text promotes gender equality as the government attempts to give more power to woman who have suffered powerlessness under traditional practices.

The article titled “Men encouraged to apply for protection orders” that appeared in the national newspaper , the Namibian on 17 June 2015, also promotes gender equality by pointing out gender inequality in society.

When one hears the phrase gender based violence the first thing that comes to mind is men abuseing women but we forget that women can also abuse men. Tonata Itenge-Emvula, special advisor at the ministry of child welfare and gender equality said that men are portrayed as violent but suffer in silence as they are too ashamed to act upon the woman who actually abuse them too.

The road to gender equality is a 2 way and men and woman should work together not against one another .
