Gender equality
"No society treats its women as well as its men." That's the conclusion from the United Nations Development Programme. Do you agree this sentence? In the past, people respected men rather than women because they thought that women were weak and couldn’t do anything. Maybe this concept is changed nowadays, but still gender inequality exists in our society.
Then why the gender inequality happens? And where is this “concept” comes from? It is just because men and women are “difference” and so they are “unequal”? With the development of the society, the concept of “Men's work centers around outside, women's work centers around the home” is gradually changed. In the past, men always took the important post, for example, the leader and officer of a country and women always played a role of needy and protected ones. But this concept is wrong, it is because male and female are human. They should have same rights and opportunities, such as job opportunities. But some cases are classified as gender inequality, for example, men are suitable to take the heavy works rather than women because their physically strength is better. But this is not gender inequality because some works which men are good at, but women cannot burden. But if women’s abilities are same as men, then their treatment should be equal.
According to an annual report by the World Economic Forum, Iceland ranks the first position when means that women are more equal to men than other countries and places. Iceland government promotes the gender equality and considers it is a concept of human right. But in some countries such as India, men’s power is much more than women and rape is always happened. It is not only gender inequality now, it is gender discrimination. Although the Indian government tries to improve this serious situation, it is not an easy work because this has become some kind of “culture” in India. Therefore, the government is not only promoting some policies, but also tries to eliminate the wrong and conservative concept of gender inequality.
"No society treats its women as well as its men."But I want to add a sentence which is “but we can improve this situation.”
